On March 17th, 'FIFA 21' will be released on Google Stadia.
Stadia will host more than one football game, thanks to the efforts of EA. FIFA 21, the latest installment in the 'the beautiful game' franchise, will be available to stream starting on March 17th, according to the publisher. It will be available alongside Madden NFL 21, a very different kind of football game, which was added to the service on January 28th. The streamable port should be compatible with all Stadia-supported devices, including Chromecast Ultra dongles, Android phones and tablets, the Chrome browser, and iOS devices — whether through Google's official web application or a fan-made app such as Stadium. For the time being, it is unclear whether or not the game will offer a limited-time free trial similar to that of Madden NFL 21 when it launches.
The announcement does not come as a huge surprise. In April, the company teased three titles that would be coming to Stadia in the near future: Madden NFL 21, FIFA 21, and the Respawn-developed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The latter was released on November 24th, more than a year after its initial release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. FIFA 21 coins, on the other hand, was released last October for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. After that, enhanced versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles were made available a few months later. EA hasn't revealed what the Stadia port will be like, but we're guessing it will be similar to the existing PC version.
It is a monumental release for Google. Stadia's library includes a number of high-profile sports games, such as NBA 2K21, but its overall selection pales in comparison to Steam and the console marketplaces run by Sony and Microsoft. Every addition should make the platform's store, which is still devoid of any sort of search functionality, appear a little less bare. It is especially critical now that Google has closed its first-party development studios in Montreal and Los Angeles. Stadia CEO Phil Harrison stated in a blog post that the company would instead concentrate on third-party developers and publishers. It would have little to offer Stadia customers, including monthly Pro subscribers, if it did not have the support of companies like EA.
